Gulshan Alimardonova becomes first Uzbek female athlete to win world karate gold
Uzbek athlete Gulshan Alimardonova has won a gold medal at the World Karate Championships, becoming the first woman from Uzbekistan to claim a world title in the sport.
Competing in the –50 kg weight category, Alimardonova secured the victory in Cairo, Egypt, where the World Championships are currently taking place.
Her historic win marks a major milestone for women’s karate in Uzbekistan.
Before Alimardonova’s achievement, Dastonbek Otabolaev had been the only Uzbek athlete to win a world championship title in karate. With her triumph, Alimardonova has now joined him in the nation’s sporting history.
