According to Ibraev, the project is being implemented with support from the REMIT program of the World Bank and aims to strengthen regional electricity connectivity while improving the reliability of power supply between the three Central Asian states.

The announcement followed a high-level meeting in Tashkent, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Kyrgyz Energy Minister to discuss the further expansion of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. During the talks, the two sides noted the steady progress in mutually beneficial energy partnerships, including stable electricity supply and transit arrangements, as well as the development of joint projects in renewable energy.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the strategic importance of deepening cooperation in hydropower and accelerating the implementation of large-scale regional projects, foremost among them the Kambarata‑1 Hydropower Plant.

Ibraev stated that the implementation of Kambarata-1 would significantly expand electricity generation capacity in the region, enabling additional supply to industrial enterprises and supporting national food security programs. The power plant is projected to have an installed capacity of 1,860 megawatts and will be supported by a reservoir with a storage volume of 5.4 billion cubic meters.

In parallel, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are planning to attract financing from international financial institutions for the construction of the hydropower facility, underlining the project’s regional importance and long-term economic impact.
