Eco-sticker rules take effect in 2026, enforcement to follow later
Starting January 1, 2026, Uzbekistan will roll out the eco-sticker system, formally known as the “Ecological Transport” program. However, penalties for violating the system’s rules will not be enforced until two years later.
The “Ecological Transport” system will come into force on January 1, 2026, Zoyir Yuldoshev, spokesperson for the Traffic Safety Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Public Security Department, said. He did not specify the amount of fines or the detailed procedure for their enforcement.
“Eco-stickers will come in three colors – green, yellow, and red,” Yuldoshev said. “At the initial stage, drivers whose vehicles receive yellow or red stickers will have the right to change their sticker color. Diagnostic centers are operating across all regions of the country. Owners of vehicles with yellow or red stickers may undergo diagnostic inspections at these centers and update the color of their stickers accordingly.”
He added that when vehicles with red stickers attempt to enter designated clean zones, drivers will be notified in real time. This is possible because vehicle data and records are maintained electronically within the traffic safety system, which operates as a unified national digital platform. Most central urban areas are already equipped with programmed cameras and other monitoring tools.
According to the official, the system of fines will not begin on January 1, 2026. Penalties for entering areas that do not correspond to a vehicle’s eco-sticker color will be introduced two years later.
