Uzbekistan to prioritize neighborhood development and social cohesion in 2026 – Mirziyoyev

Addressing the Oliy Majlis, the president noted that Uzbekistan’s population has surpassed 38 million, emphasizing that the hard work and perseverance of the people, along with the achievements of the youth, are serving the country’s progress. According to him, a nation’s strength is demonstrated not by waiting for change, but by creating it through intelligence and responsible labor.

The president stressed that the neighborhood, a unique system of self-governance, plays an unparalleled role in raising patriotic and resilient young people and in further uniting and consolidating society. He added that the neighborhood and the tradition of good neighborliness are harmonious values that enrich social capital.

The address noted that social surveys conducted nationwide show that 90 percent of respondents consider themselves part of their neighborhood community, underscoring that the neighborhood is a source of social solidarity.

As the head of state emphasized, diversity of views and opinions in society is natural and a requirement of democracy. However, regardless of nationality, language, or religion, the unifying overarching idea for the nation of 38 million is the interest of the Motherland and the people. In achieving this goal, the role and impact of the neighborhood system are significant.

“If the neighborhood is peaceful and united, our society will be peaceful and cohesive. If the neighborhood develops, our entire country will rise,” the president said.

Taking these considerations into account, the president proposed declaring 2026 in Uzbekistan the Year of Developing Neighborhoods and Strengthening Society.
