Uzbekistan Airways eases rules on missed domestic outbound flights

Uzbekistan Airways will no longer cancel return tickets when passengers miss the outbound leg of a domestic round trip, although refunds for unused segments will not be provided, the national carrier said in a statement.

According to Uzbekistan Airways, the changes apply to cases where passengers violate the sequence of flight segments indicated on their ticket.

Under the contract of carriage, flights are generally required to be taken in the order specified on the ticket, starting from the first point of departure. However, if a passenger does not use the first or a previous segment of a domestic itinerary, the airline will no longer cancel the booking for the remaining route. The ticket may still be used for travel on the remaining segments.

Regardless of fare type, the cost of unused flight segments will not be refunded. Passengers will, however, be entitled to reimbursement of airport charges for those unused segments. Tickets with unused segments will not be accepted for reissuance.

For international flights, the existing rules remain unchanged. In the event of a no-show, the reservation for the entire remaining itinerary will be automatically canceled. Passengers may reissue or refund international tickets in accordance with the applicable fare rules.

The changes follow an order issued by the Committee on Competition in August, which required the airline to amend its domestic carriage rules. Under the previous policy, passengers who purchased round-trip tickets but missed the outbound flight and reached their destination by other means would have their return ticket declared invalid.
