Authorities promise parks instead of construction on oncology sites in Tashkent
The territories of the former Republican Oncology Hospital in Tashkent and its city branch will not be transferred to the private sector. According to officials, a public green park and a creative industrial park will be established on these sites.
The issue was raised during a press tour held on December 24 at the Republican Specialized Center of Oncology and Radiology, where questions were asked about the future of the areas occupied by the former Republican Oncology Hospital and its Tashkent city branch, which are being incorporated into the center. Earlier, environmental activists had expressed concern that these territories could be allocated for private construction through closed-door decisions.
Botirbek Isabekov, head of the Tashkent City Main Health Department, said clear instructions had been issued on the matter.
“Neither of the two sites will be transferred to the private sector. Both territories will be handed over to the State Assets Management Agency in accordance with the established procedure. We have received explicit instructions that a public green park will be created on the site of the Tashkent City Oncology Center, which has more than 1,000 rare trees, and a creative industrial park will be established on the site of the Republican Oncology Hospital, where there are more than 500 mature perennial trees,” he said.
It should be recalled that the oncology hospitals, which were put up for auction and later withdrawn three years ago, are being gradually consolidated into a new oncology hospital. At the same time, members of the public have voiced concerns that their green areas could be allocated for construction projects, while staff of the oncology center have warned that this could become “another business plan.”
