Bukhara’s new international airport targeted for launch in early 2027

Bukhara’s air hub will be able to simultaneously handle up to 16 aircraft per hour and serve more than 100 flights per week.

The new international airport in Bukhara may be launched in the first quarter of 2027, Deputy Airport Director Shahboz Khayitov said in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 television channel.

“Our airport employs 550 staff. According to plans for 2026, a 15 percent increase in air traffic is provided for, and in 2026–2027 the construction and launch of a new airport are provided for as well. Its commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2027. The airport will be able to handle up to 2,000 passengers per hour,” Khayitov said.

According to Jalol Arashov, deputy governor of Bukhara region, the airport will be able to receive up to 16 aircraft per hour simultaneously and operate more than 100 flights per week.

“The current airport can handle 400 passengers per hour, whereas at the new modern international airport this figure will increase to 1,200 passengers per hour. This means a threefold increase in capacity. The number of aircraft parking stands will also rise: there are currently seven, while the new airport will have 20,” Arashov said.

For reference, the project to build a new international airport in Bukhara district was presented in May 2024. At that time, the cost of the project was estimated at $226 million, and its implementation was planned under a public–private partnership model.
