IAEA confirms support for developing nuclear medicine in Uzbekistan
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has officially confirmed its commitment to supporting Uzbekistan in the creation of a Strategic Roadmap and a National Strategy for the development of nuclear medicine. This confirmation was relayed in a formal letter received by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Vienna.
The IAEA welcomed Uzbekistan’s initiative to establish a comprehensive approach to this field, emphasizing that such efforts will significantly strengthen the national healthcare system. The agency noted that this collaboration will expand public access to oncology care and facilitate the integration of advanced medical technologies across the country.
According to the communication, the IAEA will provide support through its existing technical cooperation programs and the Joint Action Plan for 2025–2027. The agency highlighted its readiness to offer specialized expert and advisory assistance to ensure that Uzbekistan’s national strategy aligns with international safety standards and global best practices.
Furthermore, the IAEA expressed a strong interest in maintaining close long–term cooperation with Uzbekistan. This partnership is expected to cover several critical areas of modern medicine, including radiotherapy, radiology, and radiopharmacy.
