Mudflow and flood warnings issued for nine regions across Uzbekistan amid heavy rainfall forecast

Uzhydromet, the national hydro-meteorological service, has issued an urgent warning for residents and travelers in the mountainous and foothill regions of Uzbekistan. Due to expected heavy rainfall on March 31 and between April 2-6, there is a significant risk of flash floods and mudflows across nine provinces.

The high-risk areas include several districts within the Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Samarqand, Navoi, Jizzakh, Toshkent, Namangan, Fergana, and Andijan regions. In Tashkent region, the warning specifically extends to the cities of Angren and Almalyk, while in Andijan region, the city of Khanabad is also expected to be affected.

The forecast suggests that the accumulation of rainwater could lead to localized flooding in both residential areas and along transport corridors. "We ask citizens living in foothill and mountainous areas, vacationers, and drivers moving through these regions to take all necessary safety precautions," the official statement read.

This latest alert follows a similar period of instability between March 26 and March 28-30. During that time, heavy precipitation led to visible flooding in several areas, most notably in the Urgut district of the Samarqand region on March 28, where rainwater overflowed onto several public streets.

Authorities remain concerned that the upcoming wave of precipitation could exacerbate existing soil saturation, increasing the likelihood of sudden mudslides. Those planning to travel through mountain passes or stay in recreational zones are advised to monitor weather updates closely and avoid areas prone to rapid water accumulation.
