Uzhydromet warns of high avalanche risk in mountainous areas through April 8
Weather experts have issued an urgent avalanche warning for six regions across Uzbekistan, effective from April 4 to April 8, 2026.
The Center for Hydrometeorological Services (Uzhydromet) cautioned that a combination of expected precipitation and fluctuating air temperatures has significantly increased the risk of snowslides in mountainous areas at altitudes exceeding 2,000 meters above sea level.
The warning covers several key provinces and districts across the republic. In Tashkent region, the threat is particularly high in the Bostanlyk, Parkent, and Akhangaran districts within the Chatkal mountain range. Other affected areas include Kitab and Shakhrisabz districts of Kashkadarya region, as well as Boysun, Sariosiyo, and Uzun districts of Surkhandarya.
Further risks have been identified in the Bakhmal and Zaamin districts of Jizzakh region, Samarkand and Urgut districts of Samarkand region, and Pop district within Namangan region.
Authorities have strongly advised residents living in these mountainous zones, as well as tourists and drivers traveling through high-altitude passes, to take all necessary safety precautions and remain vigilant during this period.
