Uzbekistan plans $350 million EV plant in Bukhara region as industrial push gathers pace
Uzbekistan plans to launch the production of up to 80,000 electric and hybrid vehicles annually in Kagan district of Bukhara region.
The $350 million project is expected to create 500 new jobs and was among the key initiatives discussed on April 2 at a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In addition to the automotive sector, the government is moving forward with a separate $220 million project in the Bukhara district. This facility will use pyrolysis to produce benzene, toluene, xylene, pentane, hexane, bitumen, and calcium chloride. Authorities also confirmed plans to expand the production of AI-91 and AI-92 gasoline in the Karaulbazar district as part of an $85 million initiative.
Further industrial developments include the establishment of paper and cardboard manufacturing in the Kagan district. Officials also discussed goals to produce 100,000 tons of mineral fertilizers annually in Karaulbazar and a significant increase in gypsum board output in Kagan.
To maximize regional growth, the government has identified priority sectors for new facilities to be constructed on available land across 61 existing industrial zones. The development strategy is tailored to local specializations:
- In Bukhara city and the Bukhara district, priority will be given to food processing and furniture production.
- In Vabkent, the focus will be placed on the leather and textile industries.
- Petrochemical production will be prioritized in the Kagan and Karaulbazar districts.
- In Shafirkan and Peshku, authorities will focus on the pharmaceutical and food industries.
- In Gijduvan, the construction materials sector will be the primary focus for new investments.
