Hydrocarbon production in Uzbekistan sees sharp decline in early 2026

Extraction of oil, natural gas, and gas condensate in Uzbekistan has dropped significantly since the beginning of 2026, according to a report from the National Statistics Committee. While the mining sector faces downward pressure, there are signs of growth in fuel processing and electricity generation.

During the first two months of the year, Uzbekistan produced 204,400 tons of motor gasoline, representing an 8.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Despite this year-on-year growth, refining volumes remain 15.2% lower than the levels recorded in 2024, when output stood at 241,100 tons.

The extraction of raw energy resources continues a steady decline. In January and February, oil production amounted to 103,100 tons, a 2.6% decrease year-on-year. Natural gas extraction fell by 6.8% to 6.9 billion cubic meters, while gas condensate production saw the steepest drop, plunging 16% to 157,700 tons.

A broader comparison with the first two months of 2024 highlights a more severe downward trend: gas extraction has fallen by 10.4%, oil by 13%, and gas condensate by a significant 26.5%.

In contrast, other industrial sectors showed resilience. Portland cement production surged by 22.7% over the year, rising from 1.6 million tons in 2024 to 2.7 million tons in 2026. Diesel fuel production also grew by 8.7% compared to last year, although the current output of 81,000 tons remains below the 123,100 tons produced during the same period in 2024. Coal mining has remained remarkably stable, holding at 0.7 million tons for the first two months of the year for three consecutive years.

The energy sector also reported a 6% increase in electricity generation, totaling 15.25 billion kWh. This growth was driven almost entirely by small–scale enterprises, which saw their output surge by 63.2% to 4.57 billion kWh. Conversely, large–scale power plants reduced their generation by 7.8% to 10.67 billion kWh. Thermal energy production also faced a downturn, falling by 13.1% to 4,530 Gcal.
