Uzbekistan’s population nears 38.4 million with 1.8% annual growth
Uzbekistan’s permanent population has reached a new milestone, totaling 38,382,685 people as of April 1, 2026.
According to the latest data released by the National Statistics Committee, the country’s population has seen a steady increase of 1.8% compared to the same period last year.
A breakdown of the demographic data reveals a relatively balanced gender distribution across the nation. The number of men is currently estimated at 19.3 million, while the female population stands at 19.1 million.
Regarding regional distribution, the figures highlight ongoing urbanization trends. Currently, 19.6 million people reside in urban areas, while 18.8 million live in rural districts. Experts suggest that these statistics indicate a gradual but consistent shift toward urban living as infrastructure and industrial hubs expand.
The continued demographic growth presents both opportunities and challenges for the nation’s future. Specialists note that an increasing population will inevitably drive higher demand for social infrastructure, the labor market, and general economic resources. Consequently, this growth reinforces the necessity for the government to accelerate job creation and further modernize the education and healthcare systems.
