Uzbekistan’s new ambassador to Abu Dhabi presents credentials to UAE Deputy Foreign Minister
The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan, Umid Shodiev, has officially commenced his diplomatic mission in the United Arab Emirates. He presented copies of his credentials to the UAE Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Obaid Al Shamsi.
During the meeting, the two officials reviewed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UAE. The discussions spanned several key areas, including political dialogue, trade and economic ties, and cultural-humanitarian exchanges.
Omar Al Shamsi wished the new ambassador success in his tenure and expressed the UAE’s readiness to further expand relations across all sectors. In response, Ambassador Shodiev affirmed his commitment to applying every effort to strengthen the traditionally friendly bonds between the two nations.
Umid Shodiev, 43, is a seasoned diplomat and a graduate of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. He began his career within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2005 as a referent and has since held various positions, including diplomatic roles at Uzbekistan’s missions in Washington and New York.
Before his current appointment, Shodiev served as Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO in Paris from 2018-2023. In 2023, he was appointed Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan.
Shodiev succeeds Abdulaziz Akkulov, who headed the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the UAE between 2022-2025. In a direct exchange of roles within the national administration, Akkulov was appointed Chairman of the Tourism Committee in December 2025, taking over the position formerly held by Shodiev.
