Fares for public transport in Samarkand will increase from May 1, while authorities also plan to fully phase out cash payments in the near future.
Samarkand Regional Transport Department
Under the new rules, fares for buses, electric buses, and trams will be UZS 4,000 when paid in cash (via QR-coded tickets), an increase of UZS 1,000 from the current rate. Fares paid using transport or bank cards will remain unchanged at UZS 2,000.
Officials have also been tasked with ensuring that public transport operates until 22:00 on all routes, and 24 hours a day on tourist routes.
According to the regional transport authority, cash fare payments will be fully abolished in the coming days.
“To improve the quality of passenger services, cash payments for public transport fares will be completely phased out in the near future,” the statement said.
Residents have been asked to switch to cashless payment methods in advance. Passengers will be able to pay using transport and bank cards, as well as mobile applications. Tickets can also be purchased through infokiosks.
Previously, from April 15, 2025, fares in Samarkand were set at UZS 3,000 for cash payments and UZS 2,000 for payments made via bank cards or the ATTO transport card.
