The court’s criminal panel, sitting as an appellate court, overturned the convictions in eight criminal cases on May 6 under Article 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which provides grounds for rehabilitation.
The names of those rehabilitated were published on the Supreme Court’s website.
Reportedly, the individuals had originally been convicted by Soviet-era bodies, including the Fergana Special Commission under the Military Council of the Fergana Army Group of the Turkestan Front, as well as troikas of the Joint State Political Directorate in Central Asia and Kazakhstan.
The cases involved accusations including support for the Basmachi Revolt, organizing armed groups, participating in anti-Soviet uprisings, and engaging in counterrevolutionary activities.
