Uzbekistan records over 191,000 births in Q1 2026
Uzbekistan registered 191,086 live births during the first three months of the current year, with newborn boys visibly outnumbering newborn girls, according to data released by the National Statistics Committee.
Out of the total number of newborns, 98.5 thousand, or 51.5%, were boys, while 92.6 thousand, or 48.5%, were girls. This means that nearly 6,000 more boys than girls were born in the country during the first quarter.
The data also reveals a relatively balanced distribution between urban and rural areas. Rural communities accounted for the majority of births with 97.4 thousand babies (50.9%), while urban hospitals recorded 93.7 thousand births (49.1%). The crude birth rate for this period stood at 20.2 births per 1,000 people.
This early-year momentum follows a high volume of births in the previous year. According to official statistics, Uzbekistan recorded 879.6 thousand births throughout 2025.
Regionally, Samarkand region led the country in overall numbers last year with 106,266 births, followed closely by Kashkadarya region with 99,656 and Fergana region with 98,319. Conversely, Syrdarya region registered the lowest number of births in the country, with 21,042 children born over the course of the year.
