Uzhydromet issues mudflow warning for nine regions of Uzbekistan

The Center for Hydrometeorological Services (Uzhydromet) has issued an urgent weather warning for multiple mountainous and sub-mountainous districts across nine regions of Uzbekistan, citing a high risk of mudflows and flash floods from May 23–25 due to anticipated heavy rainfall.

The hazardous weather conditions are expected to affect specific localities within the following regions:

· In Kashkadarya region, residents in Yakkabag, Dehkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitob, Shahrisabz, Kamashi, and Guzar districts should remain alert.

· Surkhandarya region faces extensive risks across Sariosiyo, Uzun, Oltinsoy, Denov, Boysun, Sherobod, Shorchi, Kumkorgon, and Muzrobot districts.

· In Samarkand region, the potential for mudflows covers Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurobod, Koshrabot, Kattakorgon, Payaryk, Jomboy, and Ishtikhon districts.

· Navoiy region is also affected, with warnings active for Khatirchi, Navbahor, Nurota, Konimekh, and Karmana districts.

· Jizzakh region is similarly exposed in Zomin, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharof Rashidov, Forish, and Yangiobod districts.

· In Tashkent region, the adverse weather threatens Ohangaron, Bostonlyk, Parkent, Piskent, Orta Chirchiq, and Yuqori Chirchiq districts, as well as the cities of Angren and Almalyk.

· The Fergana Valley regions are also bracing for the impact. Namangan region is vulnerable in Pop, Kosonsoy, Chortoq, Chust, Namangan, and Yangikorgon districts.

· Fergana region faces risks in the Sokh and Fergana districts, alongside Besharyk district and the Shohimardon enclave.

· In Andijan region, the alert covers the Andijan, Asaka, Jalaquduq, Qorgontepa, Pakhtaobod, Izboskan, Khojaobod, and Marhamat districts, as well as the city of Khonobod.

Uzhydromet has urged residents living in these sub-mountainous and mountainous zones, as well as tourists and drivers traveling through highland areas, to take all necessary safety precautions. In addition to mudflows, the accumulation of rainwater in certain low-lying areas is highly likely to cause localized flooding.
