Wildberries to expand e-commerce infrastructure and fintech services in Uzbekistan

The trade turnover of goods from Uzbekistan on the popular e-commerce platform Wildberries is on track to surge by 50% and exceed $2 billion in 2026. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced these projections on June 5 during his address at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Reviewing the rapid trajectory of bilateral digital trade, the Russian President noted that the turnover of Uzbek products on Wildberries stood at $418 million in 2023. By 2025, that figure surged to nearly $1.4 billion, paving the way for the expected milestone of over $2 billion by the end of the current fiscal year.

This exponential growth stems directly from the fact that online marketplaces grant small and medium-sized manufacturers seamless access to massive consumer bases outside their domestic borders. While the Russian Federation remains the primary destination for Uzbek exports via the platform, manufacturers are increasingly reaching consumers across the entire Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and dynamic partner markets on the African continent. This digital setup allows small enterprises in Uzbekistan to scale up sales and boost profitability while operating within a transparent framework that complies with modern logistics, tax obligations, and customs clearance procedures.

Marketplace data corroborates this upward trend, with sales of Uzbek–manufactured items climbing by more than 50% year-on-year in 2025 alone to top $1.4 billion.

Looking ahead, the e-commerce giant is actively positioning itself to diversify its operations within the country. Akmal Primkulov, head of the Wildberries division in Uzbekistan, told Spot that the company is planning to develop a broader local ecosystem centered on three primary pillars: digital commerce infrastructure, ride-hailing services, and financial technology.

Ecosystem development represents a vital growth vector for any global enterprise, Primkulov explained, emphasizing that the company is currently funneling substantial investments into expanding warehouse capacities and logistics infrastructure across Uzbekistan.

However, the regional division is keeping its immediate expansion goals tightly measured. Primkulov clarified that there are no current plans to launch a dedicated WB Bank branch in the country. Instead, the marketplace intends to deploy its planned fintech services by collaborating with established domestic banking partners. Furthermore, the company has deemed the local introduction of its travel and booking portal, WB Travel, impractical at this current stage of market development.
