Customs Committee warns of temporary queues at Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan border
Travelers and cargo transport operators may experience temporary delays at the state border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan due to technical issues on the Kazakh side, according to Uzbekistan's Customs Committee.
Husan Tangriyev, the spokesperson for the committee, shared the advisory via his official Telegram channel.
The State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan previously announced that planned maintenance work within its National Information Technologies system would take place between 21:00 on June 6 and 08:00 on June 7. During this maintenance window, several critical digital services operated by the Kazakh customs authorities were scheduled to go offline.
Tangriyev noted that the ongoing maintenance has triggered temporary disruptions across multiple interconnected information systems managed by the Kazakh State Revenue Committee. These systemic glitches have directly impacted processing times at the border, resulting in short-term queues at adjacent Uzbek customs checkpoints.
The technical bottleneck in Kazakhstan coincides with parallel border challenges reported further north. Heavy traffic congestion has built up along the Kazakh–Russian border, particularly at the checkpoint linking Aktobe in Kazakhstan and Orenburg in Russia. Hundreds of vehicles are reportedly stranded on the Kazakh side of the crossing.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that freight trucks originating from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are experiencing the longest inspection times. This specific slowdown is reportedly driven by intensified customs screening protocols aimed at combating grey imports. Truck drivers at the scene noted that vehicles displaying Russian or Kazakh license plates are being redirected through a separate, faster lane to bypass the primary gridlock, while foreign cargo haulers face wait times that could extend between 2–3 days.
