SunExpress to launch direct scheduled flights between Tashkent and Izmir
Turkish airline SunExpress will launch the first-ever direct scheduled flights between Tashkent and Izmir on August 1, opening a new air route expected to strengthen tourism, business and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Turkey.
The airline will operate four weekly flights on the Izmir–Tashkent–Izmir route using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a seating capacity of 189 passengers.
The launch of the new service marks another step in expanding air connectivity between Uzbekistan and Turkey. It will also be SunExpress' debut in the Uzbek aviation market, making it the third Turkish airline to operate scheduled flights to the country.
The carrier is also considering launching regular flights to airports in the Fergana Valley from the beginning of next year.
At present, scheduled flights between Uzbekistan and Turkey are operated by Turkish Airlines and AJet. The entry of SunExpress into the market shows the growing interest of international airlines in expanding their presence in Uzbekistan.
Founded in 1989 as a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, SunExpress currently operates scheduled flights on more than 250 routes across 37 countries in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.
