The ceremony marked the launch of 11 projects worth $592 million, while construction began on 47 more projects worth a combined $7 billion, to be implemented with foreign partners. The projects are expected to create 8,000 well-paid jobs.
In particular, two wind power plants with a combined capacity of 300 MW, along with a 100 MW energy storage system, have been commissioned in the Karaozek district.
One of the newly opened facilities is Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Nukus, built in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates. The $27 million hospital has 100 beds and is equipped with modern medical equipment. The project has created 80 new jobs.
“The Karakalpak Scientific and Practical Medical Academy will also contribute to improving the quality of healthcare in the region and enhancing the professional skills of healthcare specialists”, the press service of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
As part of efforts to develop digital infrastructure in Takhiatash district, the first phase of Linkwise’s $150 million modular intelligent computing center was launched.
A $20 million project by SAPSAN TRANS NO‘KIS to improve public transport in Nukus is also under way. Twenty-five buses, including electric buses, have already been delivered, with another 75 electric buses expected to arrive by the year-end. The project would create 200 jobs.
The projects now moving into the construction phase cover a range of sectors, including energy, the digital economy, industry, transport, healthcare and services.
Construction is getting under way on a major 1.5-gigawatt wind farm in Kungrad district, along with infrastructure to connect it to the national power grid. The $2.6 billion project is being developed in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power. It will include 1,500 kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines and three 500-kilovolt substations, while two existing substations will also be upgraded.
