The Central Bank of Uzbekistan will issue commemorative gold and silver coins marking the 46th FIDE World Chess Olympiad, which is being held in Samarkand.

The coins were designed under the concept “Two coins – one Registan”. When placed side by side, the gold and silver coins form a complete image of the façade of Samarkand’s Registan Square.

The obverse features architectural elements of the Tillya-Kori Madrasah in Samarkand alongside chess pieces. The gold coin carries the inscription “46-World Chess Olympiad Samarkand-2026”, while the silver coin bears “46th FIDE Chess Olympiad Samarkand-2026”.

The reverse features the logo of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), along with the Central Bank’s name and the coins’ denominations.

Both coins will be minted from 999.9-fineness gold and silver. Each will weigh 31.1 grams and have a face value of UZS 100,000.

The initial issue will comprise 100 gold coins and 500 silver coins. The Central Bank said additional batches may be released gradually depending on market demand and interest from collectors.
