The new two-story terminal will cover 19,685 square meters and is designed to significantly expand the airport’s capacity. Mirziyoyev instructed officials to maintain high construction standards and ensure the project is completed on schedule.
The airport reconstruction, with a total cost of UZS 1.1 trillion, began after Mirziyoyev ordered its modernization during a visit to Andijan region three years ago. He returned to inspect the progress last year, and his latest visit again began with a review of work at the airport.
Much of the airport’s core infrastructure has already been upgraded during the first stage. The runway was extended to 3.3 kilometers, while a new 60-meter-wide runway meeting Category 4E requirements was built. The project also included new taxiways and parking stands for up to 10 aircraft.
The upgraded infrastructure is designed to improve both safety and the airport’s ability to handle larger aircraft. The runway has a reinforced-concrete surface with an expected service life of up to 50 years, while a high-precision German-made lighting system allows aircraft to operate safely at night and in dense fog, with landings possible in visibility of as little as 300 meters.
The airport can now accommodate large wide-body aircraft without restrictions.
The second stage is centered on the new terminal. Once completed, it will raise the airport’s hourly passenger handling capacity fivefold, from 200 to 1,000 passengers. The terminal will also feature high-speed Wi-Fi and smart services.
Andijan International Airport currently handles regular domestic and international flights operated by seven airlines. The number of flights is expected to rise from 808 to 2,500 a year, while annual passenger capacity is projected to reach 3.5 million.
