No temperature records were broken, but the month ranked among the warmest Septembers in the country’s meteorological records, according to a review published by Uzhydromet.
Temperatures above average
September brought typically warm early-autumn weather, without sharp temperature swings. Daytime temperatures across most of Uzbekistan generally ranged from 29°C to 34°C, rising to 35–37°C in some areas on the hottest days and reaching 38°C in the south and desert regions.
These readings remained below the September temperature records, which stand at 38–40°C across most of the country and 41–42°C in the north, south and desert areas.
Temperatures gradually declined during the final week of the month. Daytime highs generally stayed between 24°C and 27°C, reaching 28–30°C in the far south.
The average monthly temperature was 1.2–2.5°C above normal across most of Uzbekistan. In the north and parts of the Fergana Valley, temperatures were close to the seasonal average.
In Tashkent, September ranked fourth among the warmest months of its kind on record.
Dry conditions across most of the country
Rainfall was particularly scarce in September. Most of Uzbekistan, apart from the northern and eastern areas, received little or no rain, with only one to three episodes of brief, light showers in some locations.
In most parts of Karakalpakstan and the Fergana Valley, however, rainfall exceeded the monthly norm by 1.5–3 times. In some areas, it was four to six times higher than average.
Total precipitation in these areas reached 5–14 millimeters, compared with a typical September norm of 2–4 millimeters.
Dust haze and strong winds
Strong winds of 13–18 meters per second were recorded on some days in the north, south and desert areas, and less frequently in central Uzbekistan. Wind gusts reached 20–21 meters per second over the Ustyurt Plateau on September 2–3 and in the high-altitude areas of Tashkent region on September 20.
In some locations, stronger winds stirred up dust close to the ground, while dust haze was frequently observed.
