Emomali Rakhmon received the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon received today the speaker of the legislative chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov, who is on an official in Tajikistan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries, including the development of inter-parliamentary relations.

“Emomali Rakhmon welcomed the highly esteemed guest and stated with confidence that the results of this visit, meetings and negotiations will be an important factor for the development of partnership relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan,” the press service of the Tajik President said.

At the beginning of the conversation, Nurdinjon Ismoilov congratulated Emomali Rakhmon on the commissioning of the Rogun hydropower plant’s first unit and said that he admires the successful launch of this grandiose facility.

“This event will be sketched in the modern history of Tajikistan, because the implementation of this project is important not only for the people of Tajikistan, but also for the people of the entire region,” he said.

It was stressed at the meeting that the relations of the two countries reached a new level of strategic partnership. A serious impulse to this was given by the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan.

The parties expressed their interest in further strengthening inter-parliamentary relations, including the revitalization of the inter-parliamentary friendship group and the exchange of experience in the direction of legislation.

“Deepening cooperation in promising trade and economic, transport and transit areas, practical implementation of important documents signed during state visits of heads of state, a visa-free regime, opening of checkpoints, air routes, humanitarian cooperation and others were recognized as the most important areas of development and regarded as the main means of bringing together the friendly peoples of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan,” the report reads.

During the discussion of security issues, the following areas were recognized as priority and beneficial for the peoples:

- ensuring peace and stability in the region;

- the joint fight against terrorism and extremism;

- drug trafficking and other forms of transnational crime.

The meeting also discussed other issues of interest to the parties.
