Uzbekistan strengthens cooperation with OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights

On November 26, 2018, the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Ilhom Nematov met with Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), who is on a working visit in our country, the press service of the Ministry reported.

During the conversation, the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ODIHR in various areas were discussed.

Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir thanked the leadership of Uzbekistan for inviting her to the Asian Forum on Human Rights, which was held in Samarkand, and shared her impressions of participation in its work.

According to her, the forum was a clear indication of the expanding interaction of Uzbekistan with intergovernmental and non-governmental human rights organizations, confirming the growing interest of the world community to the ongoing large-scale reforms in the country.

The Director of the ODIHR highly appreciated the changes in Uzbekistan within the framework of the adopted Strategy of Action for 2017-2021. She stated that “the document is comprehensive, envisages fundamental changes in all spheres of life in the country, and fully complies with the goals of the OSCE”.

The OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, John McGregor, did also take part in the talks.
