Central Asian countries agree on water limits for the 2019 growing season
The 76th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) was held in Tashkent, during which the results of the use of limits and modes of operation of reservoir cascades for the non-growing season 2018-2019 on the basins of the Syrdarya and Amudarya rivers were discussed. The Ministry of Water Management of Uzbekistan reports about it.
Following the talks, the limits of water intake countries and the forecast mode of operation of reservoir cascades for the growing season of 2019 in the Syrdarya and Amudarya river basins were approved.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed on the presented regime by the “Syrdarya” basin water management association. At the same time, the Tajik side noted its readiness to ensure the passage of water from the “Bakhri Tochik” water reservoir.
The issue of participation of ICWC members and executive bodies in the development of an action program to assist the countries of the Aral Sea basin (PBAM-4) was also considered.
When developing this program on the basis of proposals and opinions of ICWC members, the Scientific-information Center of the Interstate Coordination Water Management Commission summarized proposals for developing a program of activities to assist the countries of the Aral Sea basin and decided to include them in the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea national and regional projects.
At the same time, an agreement was reached on the participation of the Scientific-information center of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission and water associations of the Amudarya and Syrdarya river basins in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, which will be held on May 7-8 in Turkmenistan.
The following 77th meeting of the ICWC will be held in September 2019 in Nur-Sultan city, the capital of Kazakhstan.
