UNWTO-sponsored conference on tourism industry recovery to be held at Uzbekistan’s initiative
On June 1, at the initiative of Uzbekistan and under the auspices of the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations (UNWTO), an online tourism conference “The Path to Recovery” will be held.
Participants will discuss mitigation of the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the tourism industry, the establishment of international cooperation and joint actions to accelerate the restoration and sustainable development of tourism, the State Tourism Committee reported.
The agreement to hold the conference was reached during telephone conversations between the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili.
The event is expected to be attended by the heads of tourism departments of Central Asian countries, as well as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Belarus and Moldova.
Participants in the upcoming conference will exchange views and experiences on effective mitigation of the consequences of COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism and hospitality industry.
In addition, the ways to combine the efforts of governments of the above countries to stimulate the rapid recovery and development of the tourism industry, ensure favorable and safe conditions for tourists in the post-pandemic period, as well as organize systematic work to rejuvenate and increase the flow of tourists will be discussed.
