South Korea plans to expand the list of countries to which more stringent quarantine measures will be applied to combat the spread of COVID-19, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on Wednesday, Interfax reports.
“The government will make a decision today that will additionally identify countries with higher viral import risks,” Chung Sye-kyun said at the government meeting as a response to COVID-19.
“For newly determined countries, tougher quarantine measures will be applied, including visa restrictions, restrictions on entry flights and the presentation of negative test results for people arriving from these countries,” he said.
It is noted that, among other countries, the list may include Uzbekistan and the Philippines.
There are currently four countries in it – Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
The Prime Minister also said that South Korea will temporarily stop the visa-free entry regime for foreign crew members traveling through the country.
This decision was made after numerous cases of coronavirus were reported in recent weeks among foreign sailors arriving in South Korea.
