Fraud suspects arrested in Khorezm over $175,000 South Korea employment scam
Law enforcement officers have detained several individuals in Khorezm region for defrauding citizens of $175,000 by promising employment opportunities and guaranteed exam passes for language proficiency tests required to work in South Korea.
A pre-investigation inquiry conducted by the Hazarasp district branch of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office revealed that a citizen, identified as D.M., and several accomplices conspired to deceive job seekers. The group extracted $15,500 from two citizens, promising to secure them jobs in South Korea through alleged high-ranking contacts working at the Agency for Foreign Labor Migration.
Following their detention, a partial refund of $1,500 from the total stolen amount was recovered and officially processed by investigators under standard procedural guidelines.
Further investigation into the group’s activities exposed a much larger operation. D.M. and his associates had defrauded an additional 17 citizens of $159,500. In these instances, the suspects promised the victims that they would illicitly guarantee a positive result on the mandatory qualification examinations required for employment verification in South Korea.
A separate, independent fraud case involving labor migration was also uncovered by the department in the same region. Another suspect, identified as Kh.Kh., swindled $10,000 from a citizen by promising to manipulate the results of the South Korean selection exams. Following law enforcement intervention, the full sum of $10,000 was successfully recovered from the suspect and formally returned to the victim under procedural protocol.
