Foreign Ministry not to renew Agnieszka Pikulicka’s accreditation due to violation of laws of Uzbekistan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided not to renew the accreditation of Al Jazeera correspondent Agnieszka Pikulicka. The statement came from Foreign Ministry spokesman Yusuf Kobiljonov.
“We decided not to renew her existing accreditation due to violations of the law of Uzbekistan,” the report said.
In early February, the Polish journalist accused a Foreign Ministry official of harassment and said the accreditation issue had not been resolved for six months. She also claimed that she was under pressure and was demanded to write only about positive changes in the country, not touching “delicate” issues.
The Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva, Board Chairman of the Public Fund for Support and Development of National Mass Media Komil Allamjonov and the Agency for Information and Mass Communications expressed their views on the situation.
As for the MFA, they said that the employee who insulted the journalist was fired, and the issue of accreditation was resolved on the same day.
In early April 2021, the Interior Ministry accused Agnieszka Pikulicka of “covering events that did not actually happen.”
