Uzbekistan Airways cancels flights to Aktau due to protests in Kazakhstan
Uzbekistan Airways has canceled flights to Aktau due to protests in the city.
According to the press service of the company, due to the closure of the Aktau international airport, the flight scheduled for January 5, 2022, on the Urgench - Aktau - Urgench route, has been canceled.
“Passengers of the canceled flight for January 5 have the right to a refund of the full cost of the ticket at the place of purchase or free rebooking for any free date after the resumption of flights,” the company says.
Protests broke out in Kazakhstan on 2 January 2022 after a sudden sharp increase in gas prices. The protests began in the oil town of Zhanaozen but have quickly spread to other cities, including the largest city, Almaty. In response, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in Mangystau district and Almaty, effective from 5 January to 19 January.
