Foreign Ministry refutes information on detention of a citizen of Uzbekistan by Kazakh border forces

Earlier, Kazakh security services reported that border guards had detained an Uzbek man with a bullet wound. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan denied this information. Later, the press service of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan edited its message.

It should be recalled that earlier the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan reported that a 29-year-old Uzbek citizen was detained at the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint (Turkestan region) while trying to leave for the Republic of Uzbekistan. The detainee’s mobile phone contained video footage taken at the site of the riots in Shymkent. There is a bullet wound on his back (presumably from rubber bullets). The man was handed over to the employees of the Saryagash district police department.

However, today, January 18, Foreign Ministry spokesman Yusuf Kabuljanov said that according to the information received by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Almaty from the NSC press service, the detainee is not a citizen of Uzbekistan.

The press service of the law enforcement agency edited the press release.
