Presidential press secretary speaks about explosion in Syrdarya

Presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov commented on the explosion that occurred in the Syrdarya.

According to him, the President is informed about such man-made events immediately.

“On the same day after the information was handed over to our President, a working group headed by Chairman of the Security Council Viktor Makhmudov was sent to the scene in accordance with the presidential order. The working group went there and analyzed the damage, in addition, for the prompt elimination of damage, a special commission was formed under the leadership of First Deputy PM Achilbay Ramatov and the regional khokim, primarily aimed at carrying out work on the restoration of broken windows of small and medium-sized businesses.

As a result of active efforts, more than 10,000 square meters of glass have been delivered to Syrdarya over the past 24 hours, and almost all the roofs of residents and business representatives have been repaired. According to the latest information, 17 people were injured. Now 7 people remain in hospitals, all of them are military. Among the townspeople, all our compatriots, who applied for medical aid, received assistance on time and were sent home,” he said during the briefing.

Asadov stressed that it was a single explosion, it did not cause detonation.

“This warehouse was built in the 40s of the 20th century, and according to technical regulations, a large number of weapons were stored here before. But after 2016, by order of the President, all warehouses are being reconstructed. Small, by world standards, warehouses are being built around them, which store a small amount of weapons. Engineering work is carried out at all facilities based on requirements established in accordance with international standards. As a result, even in the event of an explosion, the spread of dangerous objects is prevented as much as possible,” he said.

An explosion in the Syrdarya region also occurred at one of these warehouses, and due to the observance of safety requirements, there were no major losses.

“The main damage was caused to the roofs and windows of nearby buildings. That is, even if the buildings were partially damaged by the blast wave, the scattering of various objects was prevented. The incident is currently under investigation, details will be made public after all factors are taken into account. The situation is under the control of the President,” Sherzod Asadov concluded.
