“Car Free Day” campaign to be held on last Wednesday of every month
The goal of the action is to reduce traffic intensity. On March 29, such an event was held for the first time. The next event will take place on April 24.
In Uzbekistan, the “Car Free Day” campaign is now held on the fourth Wednesday of every month, UzA reports.
According to government decree, starting from March 2024, the fourth Wednesday of each month (if it falls on a holiday, then Thursday) is declared “Car Free Day,” aimed at reducing car traffic (except for public transport, special and emergency services) in Tashkent.
In 2024 this corresponds to the following dates:
• April 24;
• May 22;
• June 26;
• July 24;
• August 28;
• September 25;
• October 23;
• November 27;
• December 25.
The public project “Car Free Day” notes that managers and responsible employees of ministries and departments, regional executive authorities will come to work places by public transport, setting a personal example.
On Friday, March 29, the “Car Free Day” campaign, approved by the president back in February, took place in Tashkent. The event was held for the first time in a large-scale format.
On this day, many government leaders and employees came to work by public transport, by bicycle or on foot. In particular, Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov - by bus, Ecology Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov - by metro, Chairman of the Customs Committee Akmalkhodja Mavlonov - by bicycle, Digital Development Minister Sherzod Shermatov and CB Chairman Mamarizo Nurmuratov - on foot. The head of the Ministry of Sports, Adkham Ikromov, was also seen crossing the road on foot.
