Afroza Hamdamova becomes two-time world chess champion at 15
Uzbekistan’s Afroza Hamdamova has made chess history once again, securing her second world title at the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship in Brazil. The young prodigy clinched the title in the Girls Under-16 category, achieving victory ahead of schedule with a commanding performance.
Hamdamova amassed an impressive 9.5 points out of 10 games, winning nine matches and drawing one. This stellar performance leaves her uncatchable in the standings, regardless of the result in the final round.
This latest triumph adds to Hamdamova’s historic accomplishments in the chess world. Last year, as a representative of the Samarkand Chess School, she won the FIDE World Championship in the Girls Under-14 category, becoming the first female chess champion from Uzbekistan to secure a world title ahead of schedule.
Now at 15, Hamdamova stands as a two-time world champion and continues to inspire a new generation of chess enthusiasts in Uzbekistan.
