The Tashkent Thermal Power Plant no longer uses fuel oil for the production of electricity and heat, the JSC Thermal Power Stations reported.
Currently, the Tashkent TPP meets about 16% of the capital’s heat demand and 12% of its electricity needs. About 70% of the heat energy is generated using cogeneration technologies.
In 2024, new gas turbine units with a total capacity of 64 MW were commissioned at the facility. These units annually produce 515 million kWh of electricity and 630,000 Gcal of heat for the city’s population and economy. Three units are equipped with eco-posts that provide continuous monitoring of atmospheric emissions.
“Today, we produce electricity and heat exclusively from natural gas, without using fuel oil,” said Rasul Shamsiev, the plant’s director.
In addition, cogeneration centers have been built in the Chilanzar, Almazar, and Sergeli districts of the capital in partnership with the Turkish company Iltekno. The new equipment can operate even at low gas pressure, enhancing both efficiency and environmental performance.
According to the company, similar centers are planned for seven more districts in Tashkent – Mirzo-Ulugbek, Yunusabad, Shayhantahur, Uchtepa, Mirabad, Yashnabad, and Yangihayot.
