Customs intercept attempt to illegally export historic coins from Uzbekistan
Officials at Surkhandarya Customs reported that a passenger at the Termez Airport border post was stopped while attempting to secretly take five ancient coins out of the country.
According to the results of an artistic and historical examination, the silver coins date back to the 16th century and were minted during the era of the Bukhara Khanate.
The coins have been handed over to the Termez Archaeological Museum for safekeeping. Customs authorities are conducting pre-investigation checks regarding the incident.
It is worth noting that it is prohibited to export cultural valuables, including numismatic items, that are over 50 years old from Uzbekistan.
