Uzbekistan and South Korea may jointly build Tashkent Medical Smart City

A large-scale Tashkent Medical Smart City complex is planned to be constructed on 400 hectares in the Yuqori Chirchik district in partnership with South Korea’s Haehan Architecture. The project, valued at $5 billion, will include a medical center, school, kindergarten, a Korean-style residential quarter, and other facilities.

The Tashkent regional administration has announced the project proposal for public discussion. The initiative will be implemented by TMSC, a company established with the participation of Haehan Architecture. Under the investment agreement, a total of $5 billion in direct foreign investment will be attracted.

According to the project plan, the allocated land will host a major medical facility designed to receive international medical tourists, a medical and emergency care center, a branch of South Korea’s leading international medical university, an international school and kindergarten specializing in medical education, a Korean-style district featuring cultural, commercial, and dining streets, as well as tourism facilities. The complex will also include business and shopping centers, hotels, and multi-story residential buildings.

Based on the project and cost documentation to be developed, all planned investments will be fully utilized and facilities commissioned between 2025 and 2034. The project is expected to create more than 7,000 new jobs.

Before construction begins, a complete inventory of existing trees and shrubs on the land will be conducted, as the land category is set to be changed. For each mature tree that cannot be relocated due to project constraints, the developer will be required to plant 30 new trees at least three years old as compensation.

Additionally, for each tree approved for relocation, investors and their project companies will be obliged to plant 10 new trees or shrubs at least three years old and maintain them for a period of three years.
