Uzbekistan and US in talks to ease visa rules for citizens and businesses – Transport Ministry

Uzbekistan and the United States plan to discuss easing visa procedures for citizens and business representatives, Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev said in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

According to him, the recent agreement between Uzbekistan Airways and Boeing for the purchase of 22 Boeing 787–9 Dreamliner aircraft will allow the expansion of long-haul routes, including flights to U.S. cities.

“This will also help develop tourism – especially considering the recently adopted resolution on visa-free entry for American citizens. Discussions are underway to simplify [visa procedures] for our citizens and businesses as well,” Choriev said.

Uzbekistan has announced plans to introduce a visa-free regime for US citizens. Under a presidential decree, starting from 1 January 2026, US nationals will be able to visit Uzbekistan without a visa for up to 30 days from the date of entry.

Earlier in May, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved measures aimed at increasing tourist inflow to Uzbekistan, instructing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to propose a 30-day visa-free stay for US citizens. In response, it is expected that the United States will also consider easing visa requirements for Uzbek nationals.

Komil Allamjonov, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, said that during the October meeting, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Special Envoy of the US President for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor raised the issue of lifting visa requirements for Americans. He noted that Uzbekistan remains open to tourists from the United States.

Allamjonov added that extending the validity of B1/B2 visas (for private or business travel) from one year to ten years would represent a major step toward further strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and the United States.
