China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to visit Uzbekistan this week
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Uzbekistan, as well as Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, on 19–22 November. The trip is being made at the invitation of the foreign policy chiefs of the three countries.
In Tashkent, Wang Yi will hold a strategic dialogue with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov. The sides are expected to discuss the development of bilateral relations, cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and pressing regional issues.
Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are considered friendly states and strategic partners for China. According to the Chinese MFA, relations between Beijing and the three countries have significantly strengthened following President Xi Jinping’s recent meetings with Central Asian leaders.
Beijing believes that Wang Yi’s visit will accelerate the implementation of the agreements reached at the China – Central Asia summit and give an additional boost to regional cooperation.
