Tajikistan appoints new ambassador to Uzbekistan

Tajikistan has appointed Nasreddin Ismatullo as its new ambassador to Uzbekistan.

The appointment follows the dismissal of Abdujabbor Rahmonzoda, who had served as ambassador since May 2021. The decree notes that Rahmonzoda was relieved of his duties due to his transition to another position. Before his diplomatic posting in Tashkent, he worked as the President’s Assistant for Social Development and Public Relations.

Nasreddin Ismatullo, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, was born in 1971. He graduated from the Tajik Agrarian University and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specializing in international relations.

He has previously served as ambassador to Austria and, concurrently, to Italy, Slovakia, and Hungary; later, he headed Tajikistan’s diplomatic mission in Pakistan and, on a concurrent basis, in Bangladesh. He also served as Tajikistan’s permanent representative to the OSCE.

Since January 2024, Ismatullo has held the position of First Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan. He is fluent in Russian and English.
