Two killed as passenger bus overturns on Zarafshan – Navoi route

A passenger bus was involved in a traffic accident in Navoi.

According to available information, the accident occurred early this morning in a desert area of the region. The bus traveling along the Zarafshan – Navoi route lost control, left the roadway, and overturned.

“Everything was quiet, and then suddenly the bus overturned and started rolling. We did not even realize what had happened. Two people who were crushed by the bus died on the spot, and many others were injured,” one of the passengers told Kun.uz.

The press service of the Navoi Regional Department of Internal Affairs said the accident took place on January 5 at around 7:40 a.m. on the A-379 Navoi – Uchkuduk highway, between kilometers 167 and 168, as it passes through the Tomdibuloq settlement in Tomdi district. The bus, which had 47 passengers on board, was being driven by a 40-year-old man identified as Sh.Kh., who lost control while traveling along the Zarafshan – Navoi route.

“At present, the Navoi Regional Department of Internal Affairs is examining the circumstances of the incident in order to fully study the situation, provide assistance to the injured and their family members, and give a legal assessment of the conditions that led to such serious consequences,” the department said in an official statement.
