Loan self-ban service gains traction in Uzbekistan as young adults lead uptake
In seven months, nearly 440,000 people in Uzbekistan voluntarily imposed a ban on loans being issued in their name. Most of them are citizens aged 26–35. Activity surged sharply toward the end of 2025, with nearly 247,000 citizens imposing loan bans in November–December.
In 2025, nearly 440,000 citizens in Uzbekistan voluntarily prohibited loans from being issued in their name, according to the Credit Information and Analytical Center (CIAC).
As of January 1, a total of 438,322 individuals had connected to the free service that allows users to impose a ban on the issuance of loans. By gender, men accounted for a clear majority, more than 292.7 thousand users, while women totaled 145.6 thousand users.
The most active users of the loan ban service were individuals aged 26–35, who accounted for one-third of all users. They were followed by those aged 36–45 (24%) and those under 26 (22%).
In June, when the service to prohibit loans from being issued in one’s name was launched, more than 33.1 thousand people used it. Monthly growth then accelerated: 37.6 thousand users in July, 37.8 thousand in August, 40.8 thousand in September, and 41.8 thousand in October.
Activity increased sharply at the end of 2025. In November–December alone, nearly 247,000 citizens imposed loan bans. Specifically, more than 93.4 thousand users joined the service in November and over 153.5 thousand in December.
The service allowing individuals to enter their personal data into the registry of persons prohibited from entering into credit agreements has been in operation since June 6. Through this service, a person may be added to or removed from the registry of individuals barred from signing credit agreements.
This measure was introduced under a law signed by the president on March 4 and is aimed at preventing cases in which loans are issued without a person’s knowledge.
The service is free of charge and can be accessed through the official website of the Credit Bureau or via the Unified Interactive Public Services Portal (my.gov.uz).
