Centralized water and wastewater coverage to rise nationwide in 2026
In 2026, Uzbekistan plans to provide centralized drinking water for the first time to 310,000 residents living in 107 neighborhoods, according to Uzsuvta’minot JSC.
The company reported that by improving water supply systems for 2.4 million people across 453 neighborhoods, nationwide coverage of centralized drinking water is expected to reach 83.5 percent. In addition, plans provide for connecting 230,000 residents in 51 neighborhoods to centralized wastewater systems for the first time, while wastewater services will be improved for 95,000 people in 23 neighborhoods. As a result, wastewater coverage is projected to increase to 23 percent.
To achieve these targets, a state program will allocate UZS 1.3 trillion to construct 1,394 kilometers of drinking water and wastewater networks and build 84 facilities nationwide. In parallel, as part of 21 projects implemented with the participation of international financial institutions, $500 million in borrowed funds will be utilized to construct and reconstruct 1,161 kilometers of networks and 44 facilities.
As a result of sector development measures implemented in 2025, a total of 715,000 people across the regions were provided with clean drinking water for the first time, while water supply services were improved for an additional 2.3 million residents.
At the same time, 135,000 households were connected to centralized wastewater networks. Consequently, the share of Uzbekistan’s population with access to centralized drinking water reached 82.8 percent, while wastewater coverage increased to 22.3 percent.
