Average monthly wage in Uzbekistan rises to UZS 6.38 million

Uzbekistan’s average monthly wage reached UZS 6.38 million in 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 18.9 percent, according to data released by the National Statistics Committee. However, the figures highlight sharp disparities both across regions and between economic sectors, with average salaries ranging from less than UZS 3 million in preschool education to more than UZS 22 million in parts of the insurance industry.

Regional wage gaps persist

By region, the highest average monthly wages were recorded in Tashkent city, where salaries averaged UZS 10.75 million, followed by Navoi region at UZS 7.87 million and Tashkent region at UZS 5.97 million. At the other end of the scale, the lowest average wages were observed in Kashkadarya (UZS 4.48 million), Surkhandarya (UZS 4.48 million) and Fergana (UZS 4.73 million).

Despite overall wage growth, only two administrative units – Tashkent city and Navoi region – posted nominal wages above the national average. In all other regions, average pay remained below the countrywide level.

The wage gap between the capital and the lowest-paying regions remains substantial. In 2025, the difference between the highest average wage (Tashkent city) and the lowest (Kashkadarya) stood at 2.4 times. This follows a widening trend over recent years: the gap was 2.03 times in 2021, 2.17 times in 2022, 2.25 times in 2023 and peaked at 2.5 times in 2024.

At the same time, the fastest wage growth in 2025 was recorded in Namangan (+22.8 percent), Syrdarya (+20.8 percent) and Jizzakh (+20.7 percent).

Highest pay in finance and insurance

Sectoral data show pronounced differences in earnings across the economy. The highest average monthly wages were reported in banking, insurance, leasing and credit intermediation, at UZS 17.6 million. Within this broad category, salaries were particularly high in reinsurance and pension fund activities excluding compulsory social insurance, where average pay reached UZS 22.3 million.

The information and communications sector followed with an average wage of UZS 15.3 million, driven by high earnings in computer programming and IT consulting (UZS 19.7 million) and information services (UZS 18.9 million). Salaries in telecommunications were comparatively lower, averaging UZS 12.2 million.

Other sectors posted more moderate figures. Average monthly wages stood at UZS 9.66 million in transport and storage, UZS 7.53 million in industry, UZS 6.96 million in trade and UZS 6.55 million in construction. In arts, entertainment and recreation, average pay was UZS 5.45 million, while accommodation and food services recorded UZS 5.09 million.

Teachers and healthcare workers below average

Social sectors continued to lag behind the national average. Education workers earned an average of UZS 4.37 million, while employees in healthcare and social services received UZS 3.91 million. As a result, teachers’ salaries remained 31.5 percent below the national average, while doctors’ wages were 38.7 percent lower.

Within education, significant differences were also evident. Average pay in higher education reached UZS 10.16 million, compared with UZS 4.42 million in technical and vocational education and UZS 4.28 million in general secondary education. Preschool education recorded the lowest average wage of all sectors, at UZS 2.87 million.

Industry breakdown

In industry, average monthly wages stood at UZS 7.53 million overall, but varied widely by sub-sector. Mining and quarrying paid an average of UZS 9.86 million, while electricity, gas, steam supply and air conditioning services averaged UZS 9.22 million. Manufacturing workers earned UZS 7.21 million on average, whereas water supply, sewerage and waste management recorded significantly lower pay at UZS 4.85 million.

Overall, the 2025 data underline that while wages in Uzbekistan are rising in nominal terms, deep regional and sectoral imbalances persist, with high-paying jobs concentrated in the capital and in finance- and technology-related activities.
