Power consumption reaches new peak as winter demand rises in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan set a new all-time record for daily electricity consumption on 24 January, when total usage reached 283 million kilowatt-hours.
According to Dildora Hoshimova, spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy, preliminary operational data show that the figure represents the highest level of daily electricity consumption ever recorded in the country. The data do not include output from small-scale solar power generation.
The previous record was registered in July 2025, when daily electricity consumption peaked at 272.6 million kilowatt-hours.
The ministry also reported that on 25 January power plants generated a total of 264.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, exceeding the planned level by 3 percent. Electricity deliveries to consumers amounted to 246.9 million kilowatt-hours, also 3 percent above the target.
Natural gas consumption during the period totaled 144.7 million cubic meters. Of this volume, 1.5 million cubic meters per day were supplied to compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations serving special-purpose vehicles and public transport.
Data from the automated gas metering and control system indicate that in the Fergana Valley alone, 81,800 cubic meters of natural gas were delivered to special-purpose vehicles and public transport.
The latest figures underline growing pressure on Uzbekistan’s energy system amid rising demand, particularly during periods of peak consumption.
