Customs officers seize gold bars worth over UZS 316 million at border crossing
A man has been detained at the "Navoi" border customs post while attempting to illegally bring gold bars into the country. According to the State Customs Committee press service, the suspect was apprehended while attempting to cross the state border on foot.
The individual’s suspicious behavior drew the attention of customs officers during the routine crossing process. As a result, he was directed to a more thorough inspection utilizing a body scanner.
The high–tech screening revealed several gold bars concealed within the man's footwear. These items had not been declared to the authorities as required by law.
Upon further examination, officials recovered gold bars weighing a total of 338 grams. The total market value of the seized precious metal is estimated to be approximately UZS 316,000,000.
The State Customs Committee confirmed that the contraband was confiscated immediately following the discovery. Currently, customs authorities are conducting further checks and investigations into the case to determine the origin of the gold and any potential accomplices.
