The scholar’s lawyer, Abdulloh Sodiq, informed Kun.uz that Mubashshir Ahmad arrived at the specialized medical institution, popularly known as "Sangorod", in the Yashnobod district of Tashkent on February 20. The transfer was prompted by a deterioration in his physical condition, specifically recurring swelling in his legs.

Mubashshir Ahmad has previously been diagnosed with Type II diabetes (insulin-dependent) and arthrosis of the left leg. According to his legal representative, the doctors at the penal institution decided to send him to the capital for a more thorough and specialized medical examination after the swelling resurfaced.

"The authorities at the specialized hospital are expected to begin taking samples and conducting a full examination next week," Abdulloh Sodiq stated, citing official sources. The medical review is anticipated to last for at least 14 days.

As the transfer and registration process are still ongoing, Mubashshir Ahmad’s lawyer and relatives have not yet been able to meet with him since his arrival in Tashkent.

Mubashshir Ahmad was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison on October 8, 2024. Judge Bobur Rahimov of the Uchtepa District Criminal Court found the scholar guilty on three charges: the distribution of religious materials, the distribution of materials threatening public order, and inciting national or ethnic hatred. Following the verdict, the scholar chose not to appeal the court’s decision.

Prior to his transfer, he was serving his sentence at Penal Colony No. 5 under the Department of Corrections of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, located in the Qiziltepa district of the Navoi region.

In January 2026, Abdulloh Sodiq reached out to Kun.uz to highlight the scholar’s fragile health, arguing that Mubashshir Ahmad was physically unable to serve his sentence. At the time, the lawyer noted that despite the scholar suffering from insulin-dependent diabetes and leg ulcers, he was not receiving adequate medical clearance for specialized treatment.

However, a regional representative of the Ombudsman subsequently visited Mubashshir Ahmad to investigate his detention conditions. The Ombudsman's office reported that the scholar did not raise complaints regarding his living or working conditions. It was also noted that he had been voluntarily involved in kitchen duties within the facility.
